PSHE (personal, social and health education) & RSE

Through PSHE we promote children's understanding of themselves on a physical and emotional level. All children learn how to stay healthy and keep safe. Children are also taught to respect the differences between people.

We use two schemes to support our PSHE- Jigsaw and A Journey in Love. Jigsaw is the overall programme of study used in school. Alongside this we use the Journey In Love scheme which is our RSE scheme (Relationship and Sex Education) used at St Louis. It has been written so that year on year the children build on their knowledge and awareness. It has been developed for use in Catholic schools and also supports the Religious Education, PSHE and Science curriculum taught within the school.

As with all aspects of learning, children are naturally curious and many will have questions related to their lessons. Opportunities to discuss questions form part of the lessons and again these are treated with care and understanding. A Journey In Love highlights the importance of parental input and children will be told to discuss their lessons at home. As a parent, you have the right to withdraw your child from Sex Education at anytime if you wish to do so.

Life to the Full

Life to the Full is a brand new programme in Relationship Education for Catholic primary schools throughout the UK.

Our Online Parent Portal contains:

  • An overview of the programme, "Life to the Full"
  • Guidance for parents on the content of lessons
  • Activities that can be undertaken at home to support the delivery of the programme

What is Life to the Full?
It's a programme in Relationships Education based on the Department of Education guidance which became statutory in September 2020.  This programme is rooted in a Christian understanding of the human person, based on "A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum" provided by the Catholic Education Service.
